What is BPC-157?
BPC-157 stands for Body Protection Compound and is a synthetic peptide derived from a protein found in the stomach. BPC-157 is perhaps the most popular peptide. Many people start with this one. However, if you have significant MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome), I would wait until that is calmed down more before trying. But even with MCAS, many people tolerate it well. While initially studied for its remarkable regenerative and healing properties in muscles, tendons, and the gastrointestinal tract, recent research has also unveiled its potential benefits for brain health.
Here is what we know:
Potential benefits of subcutaneously administered BPC-157 include:
Potential benefits of orally administered BPC-157 include:
BPC-157's BRAIN BENEFITS
BPC-157 has demonstrated neuroprotective effects in various animal studies. It can help protect brain tissue from damage caused by traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and strokes. By reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis (programmed cell death) in neuronal cells, BPC-157 aids in preserving brain function and structure.
In rodent models of TBI, BPC-157 has been shown to reduce the size of brain lesions and improve functional recovery. Similar benefits have been observed in models of ischemic stroke, where BPC-157 minimized brain damage and supported neurological recovery.
BPC-157 helps modulate levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the brain, reducing inflammation that can contribute to neurodegenerative diseases and other brain pathologies. This anti-inflammatory action is crucial in maintaining overall brain health.
Preliminary studies suggest that BPC-157 may promote neurogenesis (the growth of new neurons) and synaptogenesis (the formation of new synapses). These processes are vital for learning, memory, and overall brain plasticity, contributing to enhanced cognitive function.
Animal studies have reported improvements in cognitive functions, such as memory and learning, following BPC-157 administration. Additionally, BPC-157 has exhibited anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) and antidepressant effects in rodent models, indicating potential benefits for mood regulation.
BPC-157 has demonstrated the ability to accelerate muscle healing, which can be particularly beneficial for those who have suffered muscle tears, strains, or other injuries. Studies have shown that BPC-157 promotes the repair of damaged muscle tissue, reduces inflammation, and enhances overall muscle recovery.
Tendons and ligaments, which connect muscles to bones and stabilize joints, are notoriously slow to heal due to their poor blood supply. BPC-157 has been shown to significantly enhance the healing process of tendons and ligaments by promoting collagen production, reducing inflammation, and improving blood flow to the injured area.
BPC-157 has also been studied for its potential to enhance bone healing. Research indicates that BPC-157 can promote the repair of bone fractures by stimulating the production of bone-forming cells and improving the overall healing environment. This makes it a promising candidate for treating fractures and bone-related injuries.
Chronic inflammation is a common factor in many musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis, tendinitis, and bursitis. BPC-157 has potent anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce inflammation in the affected tissues, thereby alleviating pain and promoting healing.
For individuals suffering from joint issues, such as osteoarthritis or joint injuries, BPC-157 can provide significant relief. By promoting the repair of joint cartilage and reducing inflammation, BPC-157 helps protect and restore joint health, leading to improved mobility and reduced pain.
STABLE VS. ACETATE BPC-157
“Stable form” of BPC-157 was designed for oral use. It will last for an hour in stomach acids. Acetate form is dead in under a minute if given orally. Acetate is used for injection.
Oral form of BPC-157 will only offer gastrointestinal benefits. Injectable form will offer more systemic healing benefits. This is the only peptide that I recommend as an oral supplement. All others should be subcutaneous injection or nasally (depending on the peptide). However, if you have GI issues (leaky gut, ulcers, etc), then oral BPC-157 may help. If wanting more systemic healing benefits, then you want BPC-157 as an injection.
While the injectable form of BPC-157 does offer gastrointestinal benefits, adding the oral form of BPC-157 will provide the most benefits. You can do both injectable and oral at the same time.
BPC-157 is highly effective in accelerating the healing of gastric ulcers. It promotes the regeneration of the stomach lining and enhances the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosa. This peptide stimulates the production of protective gastric mucus, reduces inflammation, and increases blood flow to the stomach, facilitating rapid ulcer healing.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used for pain relief but can cause significant damage to the gastrointestinal tract, leading to ulcers and bleeding. BPC-157 has been shown to protect the GI tract from NSAID-induced damage by promoting mucosal healing and reducing inflammation.
For individuals suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases, BPC-157 offers promising benefits. It helps reduce inflammation, promotes the healing of the intestinal lining, and supports overall gut health. BPC-157's anti-inflammatory properties make it a valuable adjunct in managing GI symptoms.
Maintaining a healthy gut barrier is crucial for preventing the translocation of harmful bacteria and toxins from the intestines into the bloodstream. BPC-157 strengthens the gut barrier by promoting the production of proteins that reinforce the tight junctions between intestinal cells. This helps prevent leaky gut syndrome and supports overall gut health.
